Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. It is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.

What should I wear for a family photography session???

Often my clients ask this question before their sessions. Madawa, what should we wear for the session? My answer is to wear what suits you best and more importantly what is comfortable for you and your family.

Yes, I understand that your outfit will have an impact on your final images, but at the end of the day it should resemble you and only you! So my advise is try to wear clothes that are comfortable and true to yourself, but pick the best ones for the session.

Should we all have same colour, like all in white/denims etc.???

The concept of matching the colours with all the members in the shoot is an ageing trend that does not work quite well most of the time. Instead of matching colours/styles to one another, my suggestion is to complement your choice of clothes with colours and designs to the others in the session. A good start is to think about the location of your session. You may consider colours that are matching to the background/setting, which will have a harmonising effect. Or you may think of the location where you are going to display wall art/ framed images at your home and select colours/styles based on that.  A nice place to get inspired is Pinterest. There are plenty of colour pallets to get inspired and use in your session.

Do’s before your session:

  • Plan ahead what you are going to wear. Get inspirations from searching through Pinterest or other avenues.
  • In general, let the ladies pick their attire and then pick the rest to complement them.
  • Try to complement your choice of clothes (colour/style) to the other members of the session.
  • Layers of clothes look always better. So, try wearing jackets, scarves, vests etc.
  • Wear your best clothes and accessories.
  • Get your hair and make-up done before the session.

Don’ts:

  • Avoid strong thematic clothes, unless if your session is brand/theme focussed.
  • Better not to wear clothes with florescent/luminous colours.
